© Some say that in the beginning when the earth was formed, jagged fractures ripped the uneven landmass scattering life forms and species with each break, and the lands drifted further apart on the oceans creating continents and countries amongst the hemispheres. The age of ice had but disappeared in the centuries which followed the meteoric extinction of the dinosaurs and the time of such colossal reptilians had long since passed. Higher in the sky, the sun rose as an even greater time arrived seeing tribes of the earth emerge from primitive caves and hideaways, and though standing upright mankind's comprehension of most things was still in its infancy.
Shrouded in darkness their minds of superstition evil and folk law spread like a virus amongst the population, all corners were infected - from the motherland of Africa, the America's, Europe, Asia to beyond the Orient. Every land was covered with a thick blanket of fear in the time long before; the Christ Child's birth, Roman Empires rise and Pharaohs first ever pyramid - for this, was the time that black magic, strange beings, perpetrators of evil and a few good-doers roamed and ruled the ancient lands.
CHAPTER 3 - BONDAGE
© Down repeatedly came the whips upon the captives’ backs, heads, shoulders, arms and legs - irrespective of gender, age or creed flesh would splay open. Raw blistering wounds festered in the blazing sun and humidity bred diseases that in certain instances caused limbs to become gangrenous. Left untreated many of these slaves fell dead along the way. Chilled brittle in the coldest climates healing wounds cracked open once more, frost did bite far more fiercely than predicted even in wearing furs. Gaping wounds froze and healed one’s were still affected by temperatures plummet - as noses, fingers, toes and feet changed colour. Turning black as some parts became they’d snap off, these slaves too eventually dropped dead and were speedily buried, not by fellow slaves but by the gales and snow flurries concealing their left behind bodies, and everyone else’s footprints in the background. Only the strongest survived and so, in withstanding the army’s brutal treatment and weathers change these remaining slaves were herded onward in long roped lines, bound by their necks, ankles and wrists.
© Overhead an eagle swooped surveying the entirety of Germania’s forests, snow tipped untamed mountainous in areas its gradients were much like its people, highly unpredictable yet resilient to the core. As far as the eye could see nature’s own defense disguised the imperfections of the terrains making them incredibly alluring, whilst also making them significantly treacherous to any previously embarked by Manyak’s army. Almost boundless vegetation covered the ground as did a constant mix of trees; small, medium and towering. Mainly of the evergreen variety they not only retained their leaves regardless of temperatures plummet or rise, but they played home to a host of animals and fearless tribes.
Peering down through the eyes of the eagle was though gazing over a sea of green, one which obscured much, however, at ground level and in some unexpected areas situated well within the shadier canopy there was the most peculiar even grotesque of trees. Overly gnarled, colossal in both width and height, wraith-like in appearance and stance with exposed roots torn back from the earth, they dominantly occupy certain positions beneath the general lushness.
© Separated from the untamed jungle the Kingdoms colossal perimeter wall reached high up into the African skyline, constructed fifty four years earlier under the instruction and watchful eye of the previous Agaashanti King. Tribe members equipped with only basic tools made rope from plaited twine, axes and chisels from sharpened stone to name a few. They men and women alike, worked together side by side sourcing building materials from the jungle. Hundreds of trees were chopped, hacked and pulled down, hauled across the jungle floor to be later aligned in position; tied, secured, bound and firmly planted at either side of thirty eight distinctive - ancient, wide and taller trees left deliberately undisturbed in the ground as main supports.
© Rumour had it, that thirty-five years ago a woman named Myakka - then being in her prime of youth, pretty faced, plump and firm fleshed with a smoldering wantonness for higher climbs than her lower standing. Managed to procure certain privileges from the newly appointed King. Her warm smile, attributes and the apparent keenness to discretely make herself sexually available to him, during his time of inconsolable grief in losing his beloved father the late King, eventually opened avenues of forbidden romance between them. Fascinated, entranced made happy again as he was by her, Ajeowah regained his composure taking up the position of King over the tribe. One night several weeks later in being outraged by something she’d said he went on to spurn and banish her from the kingdom, and within that same week took himself a woman of more suitable ranking making her his wife. Consumed with bitterness it’s believed that Myakka’s dramatic alteration of appearance stemmed from the wickedness of her deeds from that point.
Banished. Out there in the jungle as time went on an inner envy surfaced in her of this wife, his concubines the other wives and now his only daughter’s supposed inheritance. A well of contempt formed within Myakka’s heart and combined with the secret antics of performing witchcraft, as had been suspected all along, the remaining beauty she’d possessed quickly festered away in repayment for evil deeds rendered by the underworld.
